Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts: Spreading Autism Awareness, 1 Shirt at a Time

Even though the word Autism is commonly heard, still there are several speculations about Autism and of the people affected by it. In the Philippines, it is estimated that there are around 1 million people living with Autism, yet not everybody can understand what it it’s like. The Autism spectrum Disorder is a condition where a person who is diagnosed with it will not have the same experiences but are noticed by the core symptoms.

Meet Calel, he is a 6-year old who was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) at the age of four. A year ago, he discovered his love for animals and drawing and once he starts on a sketch pad he just cannot stop – his mother Marie, started posting his artwork on Facebook, when a friend commented that if in the case the drawing is produced to be printed on a t-shirt – he definitely would buy.

After a few months, Marie launched Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts for 3 reasons: to help with Calel’s therapy needs, to develop the business to eventually be taken over by Calel (when he gets older) and to spread Autism awareness.

Anybody would know that Occupational and Speech therapy is costly, plus there are limited specialists in the Philippines. Kids with ASD need to attend SPED (Special Education) classes which can cost up to 60,000Php a year. For every shirt purchased, this will help Calel’s parents to make sure he gets the special treatments that he needs.

Calel’s future is still unclear at the age of 6, he shows signs of progress but it is hard to tell if he will be able to live a normal life or yet alone become employed, if this becomes a success, Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts may become his own business to handle.

With the first batch of t-shirts printed and distributed, people that order have started to ask about Calel and his condition – this helps Marie to talk about Autism and educate them on what Calel and their parents experience day-to-day including the highs and low.

There are so many designs to choose from and each is unique which you will surely love. T-shirt’s come in kids, men and women’s sizes.

Calel’s Wacky Art Shirts are being offered at introductory prizes for the first 100 customers.

Please visit their Instagram account for updates and designs:

You may help Calel by purchasing a shirt through their Shopee account:

They are also accepting donations for art materials like sketch pads, crayons, colored pencils and pens.

April Haul: Planner Punch Board, Paper Clips, Sticker Papers, and More...

It's April already and another month to feature my collective craft haul. I've been into several projects lately and some plans to revive my online shop. I'm also doing some organizing which made me decide to buy some stuff to finally start what needs to be done.

April Craft Haul

I'm not going to make this introduction long, so here's what I got for this month collective haul.

Bookstore Haul

Matte Sticker Paper
I've been into printing stickers recently and I find it very economical to use those FREE printable stickers from the internet for my memory planning. All I just need is my trusty printer and this very affordable sticker paper - matte finish to be exact.

Expert's Choice Photo Sticker (Transparent)
And because of the free printables, I'd like to try printing them on a transparent sticker and see if it will turn out nice. I wonder if there's a matte finish for transparent stickers too? Hmmm...

Paper Mate Correction Pen and G-TEC C3 Refill
I never thought I would be able to find a Paper Mate product here and I thought they only offer Flair Pens. It's a good thing though because I really need to have a correction pen for my planner. The G-TEC, on the other hand, is for my favorite pen! I'm having problems with my G-TEC since I dropped it on the floor a few times already. It's a good thing there are available refills near my place.

The Happy Mail and personal purchase

Crafter's Square Taper Runner and Scrivo 000 Watercolor Brushes
When my friend sent me a picture of the tape runner I really begged her if I could buy 1 from her. I love using double-sided tape on whatever project I do, even on gift wraps I use them too. So having this tape runner will make my life easier because I don't need to cut and peel every time I use them. Thanks, Tracy, for the extra one! ^_^   Now for the Scrivo Brushes, got it from her destash since she's not using it anymore and prefers bigger size for her projects; while I prefer 000 for my calligraphy.

Circle Puncher (1")
This is a pasabuy from Fairy Bunchkins shop which was shipped to my friends house together with her clear stamps haul and she shipped it here to me together with my TCM haul. Thank you again my friend! ^_^

Now these goodies are the Happy Mail from Tracy! Thank you for the clear stamp inks, band bookmarker, and for giving me 2 MAMBI The Happy Planner disc-bound rings so I could personally see the sizes of the mini disc! I definitely want more of the minis! Lol!

And thank you also for the Dried Basil Leaves! Let's cook some pasta! Lol!

The Crafters Market Place Haul

Recollections Gold Polka Dot Zipper Pouch for my Webster's Pages ring binder planner to keep small notes and papers or what nots. And these gorgeous Staples Gold Jumbo Paper Clips for my upcoming project for my online shop! Yay!

And lastly, my most awaited haul-of-the-month, We R Memory Keepers Planner Punch Board with Spiral Punch Inserts and Disc Punch Inserts! These babies are love! I've came up with the decision to finally get them for myself to finally organize and compile all my artworks and my daughter's too. I can also use this for my spiral Recollections planner and put some inserts on it.

On the following days, I'll be posting my review about my recent WMRK purchase. I will also feature some some projects that uses WMRK Planner Punch Board and probably more ideas that will be helpful for you. So please watch out for it! ^_^

By the way, if you noticed, I don't post the price of each of my haul for one simple reason - prices may change in time and I don't want to mislead and cause confusion to you. But if you'd like to know how much I got them, please don't hesitate to comment. Alrighty?!

Till then! ^_^

March Haul: Fairy Bunchkins Stamps and Washi Tapes

I never thought I would come to a point that I will buy my own clear stamps and washi tapes. Years ago, I promised myself I will stay away from these crafty temptations because there's a huge possibility that I'll get addicted to such beauties.

Fast forward, I just found myself browsing different online shops. And it's hard, it's the most struggling moment of my life - struggling NOT to hoard. Lol!

Anyway, I was able to control myself in getting all those wonderful stamps and washis. I just selected what I think I can use, regularly. I'm proud to say that I didn't go overboard my budget - so yeah, there was no hoarding! *pat on the back*

Since I'm doing memory planning for this year using the Creative Year Bella Flora Mini Planner by Recollections, I'd like to add more materials to use than to what I've used last year. That's the reason why I decided to buy washi tapes from my previous hauls and of course clear stamps. I'm just glad that I found this online shop, through my friend, that sells affordable planner goodies - FAIRY BUNCHKINS.

Here's what I got from her:

 Clear Stamps
Weekends Stamp | Notes | Tiny Icons
Adventure Awaits Stamp | Calendar Stamp | Icons | TNR Alpha

Acrylic Block 5x5cm

Washi Tapes
Spring Washi | Flower Washi
Checklist Washi | Tickets Washi

freebie! ^_^

I love everything! And I just realized that I love floral washi tapes, that's what I'm going to buy next time.

Please check out Fairy Bunchkins, because aside from washi tapes and clear stamps you can also find die cuts, planner stencils, embossing folders, and more!

February #HappyLetteringChallenge Days 18-20 and the Remaining Days

CL's birthday is near and that's what makes me busy now. Added by her upcoming monthly exams, I have so little time to even pick up a pen and practice calligraphy. I'm just glad that I made it up to the 20th day of the daily challenge. But that doesn't mean that I just have to leave it like that. Of course I have to make up for the remaining 8 days.

Cheers for the wonderful February #HappyLetteringChallenge!

Recipes: Foods Rich in Iodine to Help You Try to Conceive

The fact of the matter is that almost all women in the U.S. have some kind of mild deficiency when it comes to iodine. And very few people would even give this fact a second thought. Especially since many Americans are living rushed lives, and tend to grab convenience foods that are not very nutritious on the go. Sometimes some are more health conscious and buy nutrition replacement bars for this purpose but plenty don't have the iodine that is needed. However, if they are considering to conceive a baby in the nearer future then they need to pay attention to the fact that lack of or too little iodine in the system can cause infertility.

Iodine is a mineral that helps regulate metabolism, and it is found in iodized salt, diary products, seafood, potatoes, eggs, cranberries and sea vegetables such as kelp. Many people are not getting enough of this mineral in their diets. Lack of idodine also causes weight gain or loss, mood changes, hormonal changes, and fatigue. It also disrupts thyroid function.

And in a new study conducted on a group of women who were trying to conceive that had moderate-to-severe iodine deficiency were 46 percent less likely to get pregnant during each menstrual cycle than those whose iodine levels were sufficient, and that is a huge drop of odds.

The fact of the matter is that women who are trying to get pregnant or thinking about it in the future absolutely need more iodine in their diets. Fertility experts state that in the majority of cases when it comes to fertility, nutrition and conception go hand in hands.

Because the Western diet has changed over the last few decades in regards to veganism, vegan diets have led to less iodine being consumed and this is quite harmful to women who have become vegans that want to conceive.

Not to mention, iodine from food is not enough for women to consume if they want to get pregnant. They need to take prenatal vitamins that have at least 150 micrograms of iodine.

Women who are not trying to get pregnant should also consume a minimum of 150mcg of iodine in their diets, and the amount required jumps while they are pregnant. In fact, once pregnancy is achieved the increased iodine requirements of 220mcg a day must be met in order to help develop the brain and thyroid develop properly. And breastfeeding women need to consume at least 290mcg a day in order to support themselves and their developing infants.

The study as not meant to show that low levels of iodine cause infertility, but the study did indicate that low iodine levels do contribute to infertility and that women are encouraged to increase their iodine intake which may reduce the chances of infertility being an issue when they are trying to conceive.

This fact may be alarming to women who do want to get pregnant, and the first thing that concerned women should do is to find out if they are iodine deficient. And even if their levels are satisfactory, they need to find a nutritionist who will help them find the foods that are rich in iodine that they can consume while trying to conceive, as well as taking a prenatal vitamin with at least 150mcg of iodine in it.

What women can do is become creative with recipes that involve food that are rich in iodine, and vegan women must take vitamins that have 150mcg of iron if they insist on keeping up with their vegan lifestyles. There are plenty of recipes that can be found online that will help them ensure that they are getting enough of the mineral in their diets.

They can also make sure that they are getting enough iodine by drinking the following juices, and there are three great recipes for these drinks that are easy:

Bell Pepper and Strawberry Juice

This drink will also help boost your immune system and it tastes better than it sounds because of this combination. All you need is 1/2 bell pepper and 30 strawberries, and 1.5 tbsp. of agave syrup. Just wash the bell pepper and strawberries, and remove the stems, and seeds from bell pepper. Press the strawberries first, and then the bell pepper. Then add the agave syrup into freshly squeezed juice, then stir well and serve.

Melon Banana Smoothie

There is a lot of iodine in this recipe and plenty of Vitamin C and calcium. What you will need is 1/2 of melon and 1/2 cup of milk. Take 1 banana and 3/4 cup of plain yogurt. First, peel the melon and remove the seeds, then peel the banana, and cut it up and mix it with the milk and yogurt. Press the melon, and then the banana mixture. Be sure to stir it well, and then serve.

Blueberry Banana Smoothie

Not only is this mixture high in iodine, but has plenty of Vitamins C and B6. You will want to get 1 banana, 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1/2 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of plain yogurt. Be sure to wash the blueberries, and peel the banana and cut it into pieces. Mix the milk with the plain yogurt and banana together, and then press the mixture. Press the blueberries and then mix it well, and pour into a glass and serve.

There are plenty more smoothies that can be made that are delicious, and rich in iodine among other important vitamins and minerals that you will need to not only sustain yourself properly but to get enough of the nutrient while trying to conceive and these smoothies would certainly fit in perfectly with the fertility diet.

If smoothies are not your thing, you can find other ways to make sure you are consuming enough iodine and again the individual to consult in regards to this is a nutritionist who you will be able to give you tricks and tips to make sure that you are getting more than enough of the mineral.

List of Celebrity Baby Girl Names

Whenever you are hearing about celebrities that you love getting married and expecting babies, it is exciting. And when they are expecting, you are so curious about what they could possibly name their babies! Maybe you are curious because if you are expecting as well, you may want to know what names they use for ideas. You may be thinking that celebs are more likely to use unique and far-out kind of names, but that is not necessarily the case. We are going to focus on baby names for girls, and the kind of names that celebs have chosen for them. They will be broken down into four categories based on where the name fits. The cute and quirky category, as well as the romantic and tomboy sounding names, and finally place names. Many times when anyone is naming their children after places, something about that location inspires them for one reason for another.

Another thing that seems to be trendy among celebs or not is that they name their daughters names that have been traditionally male, which also fall into the tomboy category. There are also so many people who absolutely hate that trend because it waters down names that have been traditionally male such as James, Wyatt, and Maxwell Drew which was a name that Jessica Simpson used for her daughter, which is in the list. They don't want to see boy names turn into unisex names. However, people will name their children what they choose for various reasons of their own. Let's check out the list of names that celebrities have used for their daughters over time:

February #HappyLetteringChallenge Days 11-17: Something New

As I've mentioned last week, I'd love to learn new to doodle wild flowers, leaves, and succulents. This week, I tried to doodle one for my day-11 entry., and I actually love it. I'd like to do more of this, but first.. I need to practice.

Another new thing I did is using a pencil for my day-16 entry. I am so inspired by @minortismay, I love her feed and I love how she only uses a pencil to create such a wonderful calligraphy piece. Proving that you don't need expensive inks, brush pens, and watercolors to learn and hone your skills, unless you're already a PRO on that field. This is exactly my principle when it comes to calligraphy.

Anyway, here's this week's #HappyLetteringChallenge. *smile*
